Top Ranked High Schools in Sacramento County & Placer County

Top Ranked High Schools in Sacramento County & Placer CountyWhen you’re thinking about buying a new home, and you have a family, schools are one of the most important factors when deciding on a neighborhood.  Many people can figure out elementary school and middle school but finding the right high school can be challenging.

As a Sacramento and Placer County area real estate agent/broker for the last 15 years, I have some helpful tips to finding both a great high school and new home:

  • Check out High School possibilities in person.  If you don’t have time to visit the school, you can always check out the scene during pick up and drop off.  You’ll get a great sense of the school community, students, teachers, and parents, by observing a school getting out at the end of the day.  You’ll probably be able to get a good sense of fit for your family.
  • Once you have a few high schools in mind, check out the school district’s website.  You’ll be able to download a boundaries map in order to start narrowing down neighborhoods that feed into your chosen high school.
  • Get in touch with an experienced real estate agent. They can help you figure out a budget and show you homes within the correct school boundaries.  Note: every high school has a variety of neighborhoods within their boundary that range in price.  There is usually something for every budget within a particular boundary.

Finally, you should check high school rankings based on API scores, just to make sure the school you’re moving for meets your criteria.  Below is the most current list of API scores for the 2012-2013 school year.  Scores are 1-10 (10 being the best).  Charter schools, private schools, and continuation schools are omitted from this list as their boundaries are less specific.  The city is added so you’ll get a better idea of where you may want to move:

9 – Folsom High School (Folsom)
